Our team is growing, and we are currently seeking an experienced solid-state characterization scientist to provide support for the Analytical Development Department. Reporting to the Director of Analytical Development, the ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with experience in a regulated analytical testing environment. Our department works closely with Formulations, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality control to formulate and manufacture innovative ocular formulations.

 

 

This position is based in Watertown, MA.

 

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Individual responsibilities

 

  • Develop solid state control strategies for our drug products.
  • Develop solid state characterization methods.
  • Evaluate solid state properties of materials in relation to pharmaceutical formulations and processes using both experimental and computational methods to support product development.
  • Support the development of various solid-state methods to enable clinical manufacture and monitoring of drug substance and drug products.
  • Actively participate and present experimental data and results in team and project meetings.
  • Collaborate with team members to design and execute solid-state experiments to provide fundamental understanding of DS/DP stability and address analytical problems in a resourceful manner with a high degree of reliability and attention to details.
  • Document experimental procedures in accordance with existing standard operating procedures and best practices.

Qualifications

Primary skills and knowledge required include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • PhD and/or MSc in a subject area relevant to solid state or materials science and 7-10 years of work experience relevant to the position
  • Advanced technical skills in solid state characterization of drug substance/intermediates/final product functionality (e.g. Rheology, XRPD, TGA, DSC, DVS, BET, IR, Raman, microscopy, particle size analysis, etc)
  • Experience with polymorph screening, understanding complex polymorph and solid form selection activities
  • Scientific leadership evidenced by a publication track record
  • Ability to independently optimize analytical methods
  • Time management and project management skills
  • Experience of authoring CMC content for the substance and excipient aspects of drug product regulatory filings throughout the clinical development phases.
  • Work experience from a regulated environment (GLP/GMP) and from a pharmaceutical company
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong ability to engage and collaborate across boundaries with a problem-solving attitude and focus on delivery

 

Level of Education Required:

 

  • PhD and/or MSc in a subject area relevant to solid state or materials science

Number of Years of Experience in the Function and in the Industry:

 

  • 5-7 years of hands on, industry work experience relevant to the position
