We are seeking to attract an exceptional Senior Director of External Reporting and Technical Accounting to join our growing Finance organization. Reporting to the VP, Finance & Head of Accounting, the Sr. Director of External Reporting and Technical Accounting plays a crucial role in leading EyePoint's external financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with SEC regulations, and upholding the integrity of our financial reporting. This role will interact closely with members of the finance, corporate development and legal teams, along with independent auditors to ensure accurate reporting and full compliance with all external standards. This individual will also have the opportunity to assist in special projects and process improvements. This position is located at our Watertown, MA site. We offer a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Individual responsibilities

 

  • Preparation and filing of all SEC reports including Form 10-Qs, Form 10-Ks, Form 8-Ks, Proxy Statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for the Company’s SEC filings through meticulous draft footnotes, coordination with internal departments, and preparation of disclosure checklists.
  • Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and other applicable standards
  • Research and address technical accounting matters with comprehensive memos
  • Stay updated on new accounting standards and SEC regulations that may impact financial reporting, providing expert advice on technical accounting matters
  • Oversee the quarterly reporting key dates and SEC reporting calendar, ensuring internal reporting aligns with strategic deadlines
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) in accordance with SOX 404b requirements
  • Collaborate with internal audit and external auditors to facilitate the audit process and ensure the effectiveness of the company's internal controls
  • Act as a key consultant on financial reporting, risks, and compliance, enhancing strategic decision-making
  • Develop and maintain efficient policies and procedures for the external reporting process
  • Utilize ActiveDisclosure software for SEC filings, ensuring iXBRL review and compliance
  • Contribute to the creation of financial and management reports to support technical accounting decisions and senior leadership
  • Prepare analyses and documentation to streamline internal and external audit processes, ensuring compliance with SOX
  • Engage in initiatives to enhance financial reporting and accounting processes, where necessary

Qualifications

Primary skills and knowledge required include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Public accounting experience/Big 4 preferred
  • Experience with technical accounting, research and reporting
  • Advanced understanding of SEC reporting requirements and comprehensive and current understanding of US GAAP, including recently issued accounting pronouncements
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and internal control frameworks
  • Ability to meet deadlines and attention to details
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to form strong working relationships with cross-functional teams, external consultants and internal and external auditors, emphasizing collaboration and partnership
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence, interact, and partner with cross-functional and remote teams
  • A proactive approach to challenging the status quo and driving organizational improvement
  • Self-motivated, able to manage change, and ability to work under tight deadlines and thrive in a high-growth and challenging environment with strong multi-tasking, analytical and decision making skills
  • Critical thinking self-starter with strong leadership and project management capabilities

Level of Education Required:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, finance or a related field
  • CPA designation required

Number of Years of Experience in the Function and in the Industry:

  • Minimum of 10 years, combination of recent public company SEC reporting industry experience and public accounting experience. Big 4 or top tier national public accounting experience highly preferred. Biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
